In the early 1940’s, Raymond Greene telephoned a drilling company in western North Carolina to have a well drilled only to be informed of a one year wait time; this event sparked an idea that the Greene family has chased for over 70 years. Raymond and his brother, Boyce, started Greene Brothers Well Drilling in 1945. During this time period, they worked themselves up to 5 churn drills which averaged 10-20 foot per day. In 1963, Raymond moved to Tennessee to continue in the efforts of growing Tennessee Well Supply, while Boyce stayed in Canton and continued building the Greene Brother’s name. Boyce had two sons and a daughter who entered into the family business; WT and Retha remained in Canton, while BT moved to Sylva to continue operating and expanding the Sylva office. In 1993, 30 years after Boyce and Raymond separated companies, BT and WT decided to separate companies as the next generation of the Greene lineage were stepping into the business. The Sylva office is now operated and managed by the 3rd generation of Greene’s, with the 4th generation striving daily to learn the business and history of the company.
